About

TIM OMARZU/MARINSCOPE Cucina Chianti co-owners Mark Robertson (left), Bonnie Robertson and Ed Pizzuti stand inside their newly remodeled restaurant at Redwood Boulevard and Vallejo Avenue.

Cucina Chianti is owned by two husband-and-wife couples: Mark and Bonnie Robertson and Ed and Josephine Pizzuti.

They’ve combined their skills.

The Pizzutis are longtime Bay Area restaurateurs who own Caffe Giostra, an Italian restaurant at 1390 N. McDowell Blvd. in Petaluma. Previously, they ran La Trattoria’s Pasta House on 4th Street in San Rafael in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s; Baci Cafe in Mill Valley from 1982 to 1996; and Bolero in the brick kiln building at Larkspur Landing from 1996 to 1998.

Mark Robertson is a native of South Africa, where he owned a restaurant and the food concession for the country’s racehorse tracks.

And Bonnie Robertson is an interior designer, as are her son and daughter: Michael, who owns Agins & Associates in San Francisco, and Kendal, who owns Kendal Aigens Interiors in Belvedere.

With Bonnie taking the lead, the three interior designers redid the interior of the former Capra’s. After the building was gutted and made handicap-accessible, they chose the type of seating and the interior’s color scheme and added design touches such as community-seating tables from Restoration Hardware made of old trestle material and mirrors framed with wood from a Montana barn.

Another attraction is Chris Harman, the former owner of Capra’s, who is now the head chef at Cucina Chianti.
